May, 2001:

Leroy Sisco (Cowboy Hat) , James Hardin (Center Front)

May 31, 2001:  A special thanks to Richard and Kelly Welch for their exceptional hospitality while we were hunting at the Headwaters Ranch.  I know that the others were just as appreciative of their genuine graciousness and hospitality.  I will try to get you more information on the hunt, after my trip to Memphis, TN. for the Ducks Unlimited Great Outdoors Festival. Oh yes, I saw my first fawn of the season.

May 29, 2001:  I will be joining Leroy and James pictured above, today.  We are going to be hunting Axis on the Headwaters Ranch, just east of Fredericksburg, Texas.  As always, pictures will follow.

May 28, 2001:  Happy Memorial Day!!  This marks the unofficial beginning of summer.  The long hot days of summer can be spent hunting a lot of exotic games, such as Axis, Rams, Blackbucks and more.  So, don't just sit around this summer, get out and hunt and get things ready for next fall.

Yesterday afternoon, I spent with Brent Jones and a group at a 3-D archery shoot put on by the Bosque Bowhunter Association.  It was a lot of fun and an excellent way to stay ready for hunting season.

May 27, 2001:  Thunderstorms rumbled through central Texas again this morning.  Not much rain fell in my particular location, but it looks like some areas received a lot of rain.  This is good for the deer.  This spring there has been enough rain to fill the tanks and provide good browse and cover for the deer.  If, this keeps up some experts are predicting an excellent year for deer in Texas.

May 26, 2001: This is the beginning of a very busy time for the Texas Deer Hunter cameras.  We are suppose to join Leroy Sisco and James Hardin on an Axis hunt on Wednesday.  Possibly the completion of a Scimitar hunt with Mr. Hardin on on Thursday.  Then, there is a fast trip  to Memphis, TN. for the Ducks Unlimited Great Outdoor Festival.

May 24, 2001:  Take a pictorial trip of the sites at the NRA Annual Meeting.  I saw Charleston Heston, but they wouldn't let me take his picture.  It is amazing what this man is doing to help protect our Second Amendment Rights.

Weatherby Products

May 23, 2001:  Weatherby guns have long been recognized as one of the best on the market, now has a clothing line, also.  Visit their web site by clicking on the picture, it is really good.
Carol Davis Sportswear

May 22, 2001: Another product from the NRA Annual Meeting that needs your attention, is a new thermal insulated garment/ body sock.  It is too hot right now to try them for sure, but my money is on the fact that they will work.  Come cold weather, this guy will be wearing the bodysock from Carol Davis.  How about you?

Knight booth at NRA Annual Meeting

May 20, 2001:  The trip to the NRA Annual Meeting was made very special by the fine people we were able to meet.  Michele Bartimus, Marketing Manager of Knight (The Pioneer of In-Line Muzzleloading) discusses with others the benefits of their product.  You can learn more about Knight Rifles by clicking on picture. Be sure and see more--Click Here

Welcome "Old Doug Crabtree"
Newest, Texas Deer Hunter Pro Staff Member

May 17, 2001:  Please, join me in welcoming Doug Crabtree to  the Texas Deer Hunter Pro Staff.  I had the opportunity to join Doug in a turkey blind earlier this year and his agreement to share his years of acquired knowledge with us will be greatly beneficial to all of the Texas Deer Hunter Family.  Doug and his son both just collected the Grand Slam of North American Wild turkeys with a bow and in one season, that says a lot.

May 16, 2001: Time is growing closer for the NRA 2001 Annual Meeting in Kansas City, Mo.  If you can not go, then click on the NRA logo above and learn more.  I will also bring back information and pictures.  It is important that we do all we can to support those who support us and the wildlife we like to hunt.  Do all you can to promote wildlife and our rights.

May 15, 2001: A little richer after returning from Bossier City, LA.  Well, I didn't win any money this time, but I did come back a lot richer due to the people, I met.  Let me ask you a question, Do Good People....Make Good Calls????

Eli Haydel, Founder Haydel Game Calls
Great People.....Great Calls????

May 13, 2001: Happy Mother's Day!!!  To all you moms, we at Texas Deer Hunter wish you a very Happy Mother's Day.  My wife and I are on our way to Bossier City, La.  This will be a combination trip.  A little fun and I am going to stop by to see the Haydel Game Call operation.  They don't know I am coming but maybe they will have any opportunity to share some information with me, I will then pass it on to you.  Start making your plans for hunting season now.  It now only gives you something exciting to look forward too, but it will give you amble time to get things ready.

May 12, 2001:  Mother Nature brought us another inch of rain, giving us a total of almost 4 inches so far this month in Central Texas.  This is good for all of us interested in hunting.  There are several elements that play an important part in the success of  our hunting season, one of which is a wet spring.  The new fawns will find their mom's with plenty to eat and the bucks are off to a good start in antler development.  Let's hope it doesn't get dry and hot this summer, as we all start making plans for our fall hunting season.

May 11, 2001:  The National Rifle Association will have their annual meeting May 18th-20th in Kansas City, Missouri.  This should be an excellent opportunity to learn more about our 2nd Amendment rights and what the NRA is doing to help hunters and gun owners.  There will also be many companies displaying their products, so try to make it to Kansas City if you can.  If not, I will bring back pictures and information for you.

"BUSTED"

May 10, 2001: No matter, what season it may be.  I always come back to my fond memories of hunting the whitetail deer.  This time of year even getting spotted (busted) seems like a great adventure.  Maybe, that's why, I call it "Texas Deer Hunter".

May 08, 2001:  Deer leases are beginning to become available, so be sure and check the Hunting Leases on a regular basis.  There are some new pictures in the right hand column.  I thought these were beautiful plants and they too help make up the hunt.

Corsican & Mouflan Rams
Tim Macmanus Hunting Adventures

May 07, 2001:  If you are a hunter, then you have to get excited about the picture above.  This is one of the nice things about hunting exotics, there is always something to hunt.

Gunshot

May 06, 2001:  Thought you might like to see the picture above.  You should always take your camera with you when hunting.  You can take home some excellent memories.

Texas Country Inn, Boerne, Texas

May 02, 2001:As you read this, Mark Denman and I are hunting with Tim Macmanus of Tim Macmanus Hunting Adventures and Roger Dillard of Hill Country Adventures.  We are going to be hunting on a ranch close to Boerne, Texas.  Our hunt will include a turkey hunt and an Axis hunt.  Roger says, there are a lot of Axis on the ranch, but the Rio Grande Turkeys are acting a little strange.  Cross you fingers and I will bring you an update on Friday.
