| June 2001:
June 29, 2001:Congratulations to Chipper Lowry (right in picture) of Gatesville, Texas. Chipper won 1st Place in the Texas Big Game awards for non-typical this past deer season. What can we expect next year? I'll bet on Chipper. June 27, 2001:The dog days of summer are here and the deer sitings are numerous. It is hard for me to believe that, I have been seeing so many deer. Fawns of all ages from half grown to apparent new born. The buck's antler development is looking real good, maybe this means 2001 will be the year of the horns. We can at least hope!!! June 25, 2001:The S.A.F.E.T.Y Extravaganza put on by the Dallas Safari Club was a tremendous success, if you judge it by the level of excitement demonstrated by the kids. It was one of the most enjoyable events, I have attended in a long time. I would like to thank Gray Thorton, Executive Director of Dallas Safari Club, his staff, supporters and the 80 plus volunteers for their sincere dedication to helping our young hunters. There is also a special event coming up for the ladies at Bass Pro Shop in Grapevine, Texas on July 14th. Contact Rachel Rickman a Bass Pro shop for more details. June 22, 2001: I will be traveling to Choctaw Preserve this weekend for the Dallas Safari Club's Safety Extravaganza for kids ages 12 & up. Each kid will have a sponsor and will be introduced to: rifle, shotgun, muzzleloader, archery and more. You will be able to see this segment on Texas Deer Hunter TV, starting Tuesday, July 10th. June 20, 2001:It is done! The first show of the new Texas Deer Hunter TV series has been completed and sent to the Outdoor Channel. The 1st show will air July 3rd @ 2:30pm, then followed with a Thursday @ 10:30pm and Sunday @ 12:00 noon, all times are CDT. It is my sincere hope that you will find it to be one of your favorites. Watch and let me know, how we can make it better for you. June 18, 2001:The days of late spring or getting hotter, but much of the country has been getting some much needed rain. Deer sitings have increased dramatically, during all times of the day and regardless of the moon phase. What is it that makes deer movement turn on and off in such a manner? The fawn count seems to be good and the antler development looks to be excellent. June 15, 2001: Nothing can get the heart of a hunter pumping like the sign of antlers. The picture above is of a Red Stag we saw on our recent hunt at Texas-S. They had just found one of last years sheds and he would have made the record book. They said, "he is already ahead of last year as far as brow tine length". June 14, 2001: Can you see the hog in the brush above? I was standing right next to Rick Philippi and could not see the hog in the camera. You can see it by looking at the picture below.
June 13, 2001:The hog hunt at Texas S Bowhunting was a real success. Rick Philippi, Mark Denman, Robert Hoague and I were joined by Jason Browning and his fellow guide Jason on an exciting hunt with lots of hogs and sitings of a number of exotics. The weather was a little warm but the action was hot and that's why you go hunting. Thanks to Merle and Venessa Smith (owners of Texas- S) for the great hunt and good time.
June 10, 2001: Robert Hoague , Rick Philippi, Mark Denman and I are headed to Texas-S Bowhunting Ranch for a archery hog hunt. The hunt will be covered on-line by Robert Hoauge--www.bowhunting.net and we will film the hunt for a upcoming show on the Texas Deer Hunter TV series. Hog hunting is one of those seasons that is always open. It gives you another opportunity to hunt anytime of the year and keep your skills and instincts sharp. June 08, 2001: What a difference a year can make. Last year the fawns seemed to born earlier and the deer hunters started looking for new leases earlier. This year the fawns are later and the deer hunters are getting started later, also. There was a question on the Outdoor Channel Forum about moon phases and their effect on hunting. My question is what effects the hunters? Something to think about! June 07, 2001: We talked about the deer sitings in the unexpected times. I wonder if the bright moon in the night time hours has anything to do with the irregularity?. Could it be that they are moving more at night in the bright moon conditions, thus altering their day time movement? June 06, 2001: Deer sitings are increasing in number and regularity, but not at the most expected times. We would expect to see the most deer early and late, however the deer activity recently has been late morning and mid afternoon. I have also seen more fawns and does that look like fawns are on the way soon.
June 05, 2001: A couple of the great products I found at the DU Festival are listed above. Go to their web sites and learn more about these great products for the outdoors man. June 03, 2001: The Ducks Unlimited Outdoors Festival was more than I could have ever expected. It was large, like a big fair and there were a lot of great things to see. I found some great new products to put in our new Texas Deer Hunter On-line Store. I will to give you a sampling of them tomorrow.
June 01, 2001:
Great News! The picture above illustrates the success James Hardin
had on his Axis hunt, at the Headwaters Ranch. Unfortunately, I had
to leave before it happened, but Leroy and the group captured the hunt
on film for us all. Yeah, I know this
is not June 1st, but I am fixin to leave for Memphis and couldn't wait
until I got back to share this picture and great news with you. Thanks
again to the Headwaters Ranch and their great people for all they did to
help make James' hunt successful.
