December 29, 2001: There is a lot of talk about how cows in your hunting area will keep the deer from moving in that area. I have had cows run deer out of a feeding area. The picture below shows, that like many other "truths" in the hunting arena, that is not always the case. The red blob you see to the left of the deer in the picture is a cow and the deer didn't pay any attention to it and others in the the immediate area.
1st Evidence of the Rut
December 26, 2001:
The buck above was "my" first evidence of the rut
this year. He was coming right into our location when a doe appeared
and he took off in hot pursuit. How many times has a doe cost you
an opportunity at a buck like this one?
He had six points
on the right side and 5 on the left side.

December 23, 2001: Merry Christmas to you and yours from Texas Deer Hunter TV . December 22, 2001: The picture of the 3 bucks above is a good illustration of deer aging. The one in the center is the older of the three. This can be determined primarily due to the shape and size of the body, even though the buck on the left has ten points and the one in the center only has 8 points. In order to harvest big bucks, you have to give the young ones a chance to get older, preferably 5 1/2 years or older.

December 11, 2001: I have
been told, the average deer hunter in Texas is 53 years old. This
means that we all need to do our part to get kids involved in hunting.
Don't just talk about it, get a kid and go hunting. The picture
below is our future of hunting. Well???? I can tell you
from experience, you won't have as much fun as you will hunting with a
kid.
"Texas Skinner" made by Crow The knife pictured above was made for me by Crow at Crow's Cut 'N Shoot. You can go to his web page by looking under Texas Deer Hunter Hunting Links, in the center column. I would like to thank Crow for this exceptional knife. It is the sharpest knife, I have ever used and that comment comes from others who have been lucky enough to get to use this wonderful knife. "Thanks Crow" for all the skill and hard work that went into making this knife.
not seen much evidence of rut. Saw a few half-hearted scrapes but that's not unusual here, they don't usually do much the first half of the season . Thanks to these Texas Deer Hunter supporters for their input More Hunting News: (
