August-September 2001:

September 28, 2001:  The Smith Ranch hog hunt was a lot of fun and very challenging.  If you have never hunted wild hogs in thick cover with acorns everywhere, you need to try it.  Tomorrow brings opening day of archery season for deer, so hold on as the Texas Deer Hunter cameras take to the field in pursuit of our favorite big game animal.

September 26,2001: Mark and I are headed back down to the Smith Ranch to try calling wild hogs.  Then, Saturday we will go hunting with Dr. Mike Thraser.  It will be the first day of Archery season in Texas and Mike has his eye on a mature 10 point.  There are a lot of good  hunts coming up, so come back each day for updates and pictures.

September 23, 2001:  Time is getting closer as we go into our first full day of fall.  It is getting cooler and the deer reports are sounding very promising.  We start our 2001 season on the 1st of October and we will have some excellent hunts for you in the future.  The Texas Deer Hunter cameras will be hunting Whitetail in Texas. Georgia, Tennessee, Mississippi, Nebraska, Maryland and Mexico.  We have already had the opportunity to film hunts in New Mexico and Colorado.  So, stay with us as we take you on hunts that  you will not want to miss.

September 20, 2001:  A recent elk hunt on the Homestead Ranch near Gunnison, Co. yielded a real nice bull.  As soon as my computer is back up to snuff, I will post some pictures.

September 17, 2001:  Before , we get to the Colorado elk hunt, the picture above is of some fine young people I met in Abilene, Texas.  These young people are the future of our hunting heritage.

September 7, 2001: Much has happened while the computer bug had my system down.  Above is one of the fellows from Mississippi that I was able to hunt with in New Mexico.  There will be updates on our Feral Hog hunt at the Smith Ranch in Centerville, Texas.

September 3, 2001: The official start of Texas hunting season has come and gone.  September 1st brought a lot of rain and scattered dove.  It was by no means the best dove shooting I have ever had, but the hunt and fellowship was great.  This may mean we will have a great deer season headed our way.

August 31, 2001:  We are back!! Mother nature and a computer worm disabled my update capabilities for a while.  Sorry!!! Much has happened since our last update of August 15th, but rather than trying to catch you up, I will start as if nothing ever happened.

"A Year with The Whitetail 2001"

August 15, 2001:  Have been on a short trip.  Sorry, I was unable to get the site updated on a regular basis.  Deer sitings have been amazing.  I have seen a lot of deer and my feelings are it may be a  great year for antlers.  Call your taxidermist and get ready for a good year.  Mark and I are headed down to Rancho Del Sol to hunt Axis & Black Buck, I will try to get some pictures of some good Whitetail.  Look for more updates, this weekend.

You can see deer anywhere!

August 8, 2001:  I had mentioned yesterday, about the deer seen from my back door.  This is one of them as he headed for less cover.  You can see there is very little cover and he is headed to an area that offers less.  Much has been written about mule deer and elk living in the plains.  How about Whitetail?

August 07, 2001: I couldn't believe my eyes.  I looked out my back door this evening and saw three bucks, no more than 150 yards away.  This may not seem odd to you, but even though I live on a fairly large place, there are not 100 trees on the entire place.  There just isn't any cover, as you would think deer would like. There isn't even a good shade tree.  It just goes to prove, you never know where you might see deer.  I took some pictures, tomorrow I will see how they turned out.

August 5, 2001: Thanks & congratulations to Hal Mayo.  Hal was the high bidder on the Black Buck hunt last night at the Texas Game Wardens Wild Game Cook Off.  He will be joining Mark Denman and myself at Rancho Del Sol for a hunt that will be a lot of fun.  I will keep you posted and provide you with pictures and more details.  Thanks again to Hal & look for his hunt on your TV sets the latter part of September (date to be announced).

August 02, 2001: Texas Game Wardens Association's Wild Game Cook Off will be held in Waco, Texas on August 4th.  There will be raffles, an auction and excellent food.  Rancho Del Sol and Texas Deer Hunter TV have joined forces to offer an Axis or Black Buck hunt that will be filmed for TV.  The show will air in September of 2001, on the Outdoor Channel.
