Hogs,
Hogs, Everywhere
| By Jim Autrey
There are hogs, hogs everywhere at Rancho Del Zorro. For those of us that go through post deer season depression, there is a nice thing about feral hogs and Javelina, you can hunt them anytime. If you are hunting for something to hunt during the off season, I might recommend hogs. Robert Hoague and I were deer hunting at Rancho Del Zorro, but one of the bonuses of this hunt were the feral hogs and javelina. These wild critters are a real nuisance when you are hunting deer. They will actually run the deer off, if they are in competition for the same food source, but if you were hunting hogs the action is quick and the selection is great.
One afternoon, Robert and I set up a Double Bull blind for bow hunting. The javelina came to within 15 yards of us and there were as many as 20 or more at a time,
Robert had the opportunity to harvest another hog, later in the hunt. He mad an excellent double lung shot, but due to the late hour and the thick cover we were unable to recover the hog until the next morning. The Coyotes have to eat too.
